BioNews reader survey 2012: have your say!

16 January 2012
Appeared in BioNews 640
2011 was a successful year for BioNews. As well as a nine percent increase in subscribers, we saw our volunteer writers reaching an impressive 58, and the number of news and comment pieces in each edition continued to grow. Throughout 2011, BioNews contributed to a number of debates on key topics such as the future of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority and how to compensate egg and sperm donors.

Now, our thoughts turn to BioNews in 2012. I won't go into too much detail here about the ongoing financial struggle that the Progress Educational Trust (PET) faces in keeping BioNews a free resource, as I'm sure you're all aware of the BioNews Appeal to raise £20,000 to secure BioNews' future. (If not, then please read PET Director Sarah Norcross' piece and donate now!).

The BioNews editors and PET staff are keen to understand readers' views of BioNews and, most importantly, how BioNews can be improved. So, we need every single one of you to complete the 2012 BioNews reader survey. It's online, easy to complete, and should only take a few minutes of your time. There are four short sections: 'You and BioNews', 'BioNews content', 'BioNews design' and 'About you'.

This is your opportunity to tell us what you think: what features you like, what aspects of BioNews you don't like, what you'd like to see more of, and less of.

Please do take a few minutes to complete the survey here - the BioNews editors and everyone at PET cannot keep BioNews relevant without your input. This is also PET's opportunity to find out more about BioNews' readership, which helps to attract advertisers and inform grant applications, which in turn enhances the probability of funding - all of which means you can continue to enjoy BioNews as a free resource.

Thank you.

A huge thank-you to the 700 readers who took the time to complete our survey earlier this year. As with previous surveys, the results will be invaluable for the future development of BioNews, to ensure it continues to meet the needs of our readers...

BioNews is celebrating its 12th birthday this week, with the publication of the 600th edition of its weekly email newsletter. The Progress Educational Trust, the charity which publishes BioNews, is a lean organisation and that is why we are asking all our readers to donate to the Bionews Birthday Appeal....

We have now analysed the results of our recent BioNews readership survey. Thank you to the 611 readers who took the time to complete the survey - a record number of respondents, perhaps because this was the first survey our readers could complete on our website...
