Engineering Principles in Biological Systems

Cold Spring Harbour Laboratory/Wellcome Trust
Wellcome Trust Conference Centre, Wellcome Trust Genome Campus, Hinxton, Cambridge CB10 1RQ, UK
14 October 2009 - 17 October 2009

The 3rd Cold Spring Harbour Laboratory/Wellcome Trust event on Engineering Principles in Biological Systems.

There are two key ideas behind this event: that theoretical engineering principles that have been developed in the context of human engineered systems are useful in understanding biological function, and that these principles apply across scales, from the cellular to the organism level. The event is aimed at researchers in fields ranging from bacterial systems biology to neural systems, with shared interest in engineering principles. It is intended to foster cross-disciplinary exchange of ideas and expertise between engineers, mathematicians and biologists interested in the analysis of diverse biological systems through the application of engineering principles.

Topics addressed at this event will include:

  • dynamics and modeling of biological processes;

  • feedback and control for regulation and robustness;

  • information and communications theory;

  • models of computing and algorithms;

  • evolution, development and engineering design;

  • synthetic biology.

Attendance fees range from £350 to £690. To register, use this online form or contact Cold Spring Harbour Laboratory at meetings@cshl.edu or on +1 516 367 8346.

Further details of this event are available on the Cold Spring Harbour Laboratory website.
