30 October 2010 - 31 October 2010 The 6th annual Battle of Ideas festival, featuring thought-provoking debate and making a virtue of free thinking and the lively exchange of views.
The festival fosters an atmosphere of intellectual freedom and open-ended exploration of new ideas, research and social trends. This year's festival will incorporate two sessions featuring BioNews Webmaster and Progress Educational Trust (PET) Communications Officer Sandy Starr. On Saturday 30 October 2010 he will give a presentation at the session Choosing Tomorrow's Children, and on Sunday 31 October 2010 he will chair the session End of the Peer Revue: Has the Peer Review Process Lost Credibility?.
Related sessions at the festival form part of strands entitled Battle for Medical Ethics, Battle for Social Policy and Battle over Scientific Evidence. The festival will also be preceded by related satellite events entitled Public Health: Should Evidence Always Dictate Policy?, Nature of Genius: Standing on the Shoulders of Giants or Genes? and We're All Depressed Now? Redefining Mental Illness in a Therapeutic Era.
