Genetics and the Causes of Evolution: 150 Years of Progress Since Darwin

Royal Society/Genetics Society
Royal Society, 6-9 Carlton House Terrace, London SW1Y 5AG, UK
12 November 2009 - 13 November 2009

An event addressing how genetics contributes to our knowledge of the mechanisms of evolutionary change across a wide range of biological systems, from viruses to humans.

In Charles Darwin's day, a lack of understanding of inheritance meant that the theory of evolution was incomplete. 150 years since the publication of On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection (buy this book from Amazon UK or Amazon USA), this crucial gap has been filled by research in genetics.

Attendance is free. An optional lunch is offered each day for £15+VAT per day, and must be booked during registration. To register, contact the Royal Society at or on +44 (0)20 7451 2500.

Find out more about genetics in The Rough Guide to Genes and Cloning, coauthored by BioNews Contributing Editor Dr Jess Buxton (buy this book from Amazon UK or Amazon USA).

Further details of this event are available on the Royal Society website.
