Correction: Posthumous retrieval of gametes: a case of deja vu?

01 December 2008

By BioNews

Appeared in BioNews 486

In BioNews issue 484 we published a commentary on the recent 'L' decision. Since that time, we have been in communication with Diane Blood and also the solicitor acting for 'L' with respect to the article's accuracy. In the light of the comments made by these parties, we have altered some of the text of the commentary (the revised version of which can now be read and apologise to Mrs Blood and to 'L' for any distress that may have been caused. A commentary written by L's solicitor is published this week, responding to many of the points raised in the original commentary, and is available www.bionews.org.uk online. An earlier commentary on the case, written by Diane Blood, is also available.

To those who followed the story of Diane Blood in the '90s, the plight of the woman referred to as 'L' in recent news articles has a strong sense of deja vu (1). Once again, sperm has been obtained from the body of a man without his prior consent. Once...[Read More]
