Sorry, wrong number

23 January 2012

By Sarah Norcross

Appeared in BioNews 641
We were really excited to offer BioNews readers the opportunity to donate to our BioNews Christmas Appeal by text message. We thought this would be quick and easy for people, especially the text generation. We monitored the account with Vodafone but apart from our own donation to test it worked... nothing came in.

We were disappointed. This week we realised that we had used the wrong number in every bit of copy we had written. Boy, do we feel stupid!

So if you have kindly donated to our appeal by text we won't have received it and you won't have been charged for it. So we humbly ask you to please make your donation again by texting 'PROG23 £amount' to 70070.

If you have been putting off making your donation please act now, as we are still a long way from our £20,000 target. If you don't want to text, you can donate via Paypal or send a cheque payable to 'Progress Educational Trust' to Progress Educational Trust, 140 Gray's Inn Road, London WC1X 8AX.

I was obviously far too subtle with talk of Scrooge and the ghosts of Christmas as the donations for BioNews have indeed 'yet to come'. Only three generous readers have made a donation...[Read More]

I have endeavoured in this Ghostly little comment piece, to raise the Ghost of an Idea, which shall not put my readers out of humour with themselves, with each other, with the season, or with me. May it haunt their inboxes pleasantly, and no one wish to lay it. A quotation adapted from the dedication in Charles Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol'....[Read More]
